This year; Scott and I went to the Hogle Zoo for our Christmas gifts for the grandkids.

We bought Zoo membership passes and these jackets for all the grandkids.

Most of the kids wore their jackets for the rest of the day. The headbands are their gifts from Austin and Shawnee. They wore these for the rest of the day too. Here Hannah and Reagan drink the traditional slush. Erik's family and Jennifer's family have already gone to the Zoo during those warmer days between Christmas and New Years.

Visiting a Pumpkin Patch!

Part of the fun of Fall and Halloween is picking out pumpkins to carve. We recently went to a local patch and the kids had a great time choosing, clipping, and carrying their own pumpkins.

Governor Jenkins? As part of the conference that Scott attended in Honolulu; we went to visit the State Capitol of Hawaii. Here; Scott is standing behind the desk of the Governor. The building was a very open building with the Rotonda having no roof. Symbalic of a volcano.
Walking a beautiful beach in Maui. This is where we also saw lots of kite surfers. Really cool to watch.
Plants are HUGE. and Everything is so green. rains most every day for about 5 min. at a time.
I lucked out on this shot...I guess..One more foot and my ball would have been in the water. But trying to hit it to the green was scarey...6 more inches backward and I would have been in the water! This course was by far one of the prettiest. But at $200 a piece for 18 holes...it should have been the best!

Hawaii Cruise and Conference

Last week; Scott and I got home from 10 fabulous days spent in Hawaii. We took a cruise and visited all the Islands; golfing on each one. Every morning we started out our day walking or running on the ship for exercise, while the ship was getting ready to land on a different Island each day. ( Travel was each night while we slept)

Our first Island was Maui. So many beautiful plants and flowers. And we were told that we needed to visit in the late fall or even December to get the most of the flowers! Can't imagine seeing more.
Each golf course was so unique! This one was probably the worst of the 5 we golfed on. But beautiful cause it was right on the ocean front.
In Kona; our cab driver took us to see the Temple after he learned we were "one of those practicing mormons". It had such a peaceful feeling to it. We didn't have the time to attend a session though, Had to get back to the ship before it set sail for the Island of Kaui. What a great experience. I guess thanks to the Utah State Senate for getting us there for a conference that Scott attended after our cruise ended.

Hotel Utah's 100th Anniversary Gala

Friday Night June 10th 2011 Marked the 100 years for Hotel Utah and Joseph Smith Memorial building. Scott and I were invited to a dinner Gala that evening. As it turned out we were the only senators there. Brad Dee and his wife Marsha from the House were the only ones from that body. Period dress was encouraged. Out of 800 invited....I'd say only about 24 couples dressed up. Most being the "host and hostesses" for the evening. But we thought dressing up was a blast!

President Monson spoke as well as Govornor Herbert and Mayor Becker of Salt Lake City. Our seats were above everyone else in the Mezzanine level. This will go down in our memory of special things that we did while Scott was in the Senate.

Memorial Weekend

Erik's family went to the cabin with Scott and I for Memorial weekend. It was pretty wet weather so two of the three days were spent inside. Cameron showed me his fabulous talent of putting together puzzles. He was finding pieces faster than I did. I was in awe at how well this almost 5 year old did.
Erik and Kelli told us that at his pre-school there was a puzzle contest and Cameron won hands down faster than any one else in the class. Sounds like to me he is taking after his dad in problem solving.
Finally on Monday morning the rain and Snow stopped long enough for some golf ball hunting. The kids enjoyed this probably more than Easter egg hunting.

A few of the things that I have enjoyed this past month are: the grandkids waiting out the front door for new furniture to be delivered. I'm sure Sparrows Home furnishings have NEVER been greeted like this before.
My three grandsons that are now in glasses. (Non of the girls yet; just the boys.) Can't figure it out if there is logic in that yet.
My new favorite room in the house. New carpet and new furniture smells better than any candle!

Last weekend; we took an updated picture of our family. Some were a little upset that it was too casual. Check out Kate and Vader staring each other down.
Griffin (Jolene's and Devin's son just got new glasses. He was so happy to be able to see now.
Weekends are always hard for Scott.
Our most recent gift card given to Scott for a recent speaking engagement. Not sure we will be taking that one into the resteraunt to redeem. But pretty cool anyway.

New carpet!

Painting the living room. Scott was sooo involved with painting the ceiling; he stepped right into the paint tray with his one foot! Paint everywhere!
New paint on the walls, new carpet as well as new blinds on the front room window! We have a new window coming tomarrow! And then Saturday; new furniture!
I couldn't get this picture to rotate and stick; but anyway these guys are pulling off the old carpet from the stairs. (which by the way is original which makes it 34 years old!
But the new carpet is SO BEAUTIFUL! Why haven't we done this sooner?

Hanging out with the Dinosaurs

This year the kids were given the opportunity to put together a dino puzzle. If they succeeded, they were given a wooden puzzle of a dinosaur. Thanks Thanksgiving Point!

Utah State University and the Legislative Wives

Utah State university came last week and gave us an amazing luncheon featuring their ARTS department. Here was our dessert. Aggie ice cream and a chocolate wave of musical notes.
The fashion department showed off their contest winner of making a dress out of office furniture. You can see the bodice is a chair back and the frame work for the dress; the legs of the chair and material from the seat of office chair. They had taken 1st place in the contest with other schools.
Add a battery pack and you have lights! It was truely fantastic!

A fun family night at the aquarium

Last night we braved the snowy weather and went to the Living Planet Aquarium for a great family night. Here Brianne and Kate get to touch a snake.

Erik is going to make sure that Kate doesn't back out of touching this huge thing!
Addison is not sure if this is what she wants to do either. But in the long run; only the youngest of the grandkids ended up being brave enough to touch the snakes. (They didn't know better)
Kate and Cameron are hoping to touch a stingray. (But their arms were just not long enough)
Kenidee, Kaden, Brianne, Griffin and James are being "electrified" by the electric eel. Thanks Living Planet for great food and a great time!

Cub Scouts and the Rain gutter Regatta

Last Thursday night; our cub scouts in my ward had the raingutter regatta. Here 3 of our boys helped fill the gutters with water.

They had a marvelous time "racing" their boats in competition with each other.
It was very hard to not use their hands to help their boat go faster.

Martin Luther King weekend at Bear Lake

This weekend was spent putting together our puzzle making skills. In all 4 puzzles were put together; including 2 at 750 pieces apiece.

Snow was very wet and compact; but still able to sled on. Perfect for making a snowman though.

Marie Elm Jenkins

On December 19, 2010 my sister-in-law Marie passed away due to cancer. She had a beautiful memorial and lots of beautiful flowers. She wanted to be buried here in Plain City with all the rest of the Jenkins clan.

It was also a day to remember Kent and Wilma . Marie is buried next to them.

Yummy Sugar Cookies

Just before Christmas; we made some finger licking good cookies. Thanks to Barbara; our trees look great.

I think more frosting got in mouths and not so much on the cookies.
Kaycee finally just dumped all the sprinkles on top so she could lick the good stuff.

A Very memorable Thanksgiving

For Thanksgiving this year Scott and I went on a 4 day golfing vacation to St. George and Las Vegas, Nevada. It was a little chilly; but we had a great time non the less.

I had to rent these warm up pants because I didn't have slacks that day and dress code did not allow jeans. But they did keep me warm.

This was a typical hole in Vegas. Your ball had to be able to "jump" over lots of rough edges and sometimes revines, before getting to the actual green and hole. Amazingly, I learned to do it! I even almost got a hole in one in Vegas. My ball came within an inch of the hole.

Eating our Thanksgiving dinner at the Hotel. I had Ham, sweet potatoes, brussel sprouts and pumpkin pie. Scott had turkey, dressing, green beans, mashed potatoes and pecan pie. VERY TASTY! So to cap it all....72 holes in 4 days! WOW!

Decorating Halloween Houses

Saturday afternoon all the family (except Austin and Shawnee) gathered to decorate Haunted Houses. Hannah did a great job on hers.
Owen was our only boy that seemed interested in makiing a house. Nice job Owen!
Brianne is really proud of her house.
Reagan and Kenidee made a great team. Jennifer was pleased that she didn't have to do any decorating this year. (just a few hot glue repairs first.)

Avery Jenkins has arrived!

Avery was born Sunday morning. She was excited to come here, because she made it in about 3 1/3 hours. She was 7 lb. 2 oz. and 18 in.

Need less to say; we are proud grandparents...no matter how many little ones we get to join our family.
Kate was just fasinated by Avery's little toes. She kept unwrapping her blanket so she could get another look. Congrats to Erik and Kelli!

An afternoon with the Witches

Yesterday, a few of the Senate wives got together for lunch at DoDo's in Salt Lake City. Afterward some of us went to Gardner's Village to see the witches. Fun stuff.

These are only four of about 20 witches that are there. It was really crowded for a Wednesday afternoon, Next week is witches day out, where everyone comes dressed up as a witch. I can only imagine how crowded that will be.

Wednesday night, Scott and I went to see The Lion King in Salt Lake City! It was fantastic! The puppets (animals) were so clever and creative. I scrapbooked these pages and then erased my disc on my camera, so hopefully you can see the pictures well enough.

One last weekend before summer ends

Labor day weekend is our last hurray before summer ends. Our girls and their families went up to Bear Lake with us to enjoy the long weekend. Of course the most importandt item on the "to do List" was to mount this bad boy.

He really takes up most of the room like he owns it! Not sure I really am in love with it....but Scott is so that's what matters.
Monday; which was labor day, it ended up too cold for a beach day and day of getting wet, so we went to the local park while the guys golfed. Kenidee brought a friend with her. this is her and Kalli trying out all the climbing things.
The rock wall was fun for the boys to try their skills on. It was an enjoyable trip for us all; Except Scott who ended up with phenomonia and ended up taking a drive to Logan Sunday for medication and a doctors visit.

Reagan and Hannah attended another week of Kamp with me and made some darling things. I love watching how independent they are at making their projects. Donna (the owner) is so patient with all the girls. Thanks, Donna for making our summer go by just a little faster.

A family reunion at Heber Valley Campground

This past weekend, the Jenkins had their annual campout. This year we went to Heber Valley campground, which is owned by the church. Everything was in perfect condition! There were lots of activities for the kids.
We all enjoyed a paddle boat ride on the lake. Canoes were available too for those that could handle them. They would have been much easier on the thighs than those paddle boats though.
Jacob brought a great game for everyone to enjoy. Chase the tails. If your rope tail got stepped on....you were out!
We ended up with the game "Minute to win it" Here Mark and Jay are doing the elephant march. They had to swing a tennis ball without touching the nylon on their head and hit bottles of water that were placed on the ground. I have never laughed so hard in a long time! Thanks to Barbara for all her hard work in making a great weekend for everyone.

A fun day at the Splash Park

Monday morning; Jolene had surgery on her hand. A sist needed to be removed. So I brought them all to my house that afternoon for a week of recovery. Addison Loved her bubble baths at Grandma's.
By Thursday; Jolene was feelling pretty good, so we ALL went to the Splash Pad in Riverdale for some water fun. Here Griffin and James are having a shoot out with water. (How is getting wetter?)
Brianne and Olivia loved the mushrooms. Kaycee and Addison did too, just not a picture of them.
Proof of Jolene's hand. She basically can;t get this wet for two weeks and 6 weeks after that, no lifting more than 5 pounds! Good luck Jo!

A QUICK visit to Eagle, Idaho

Last weekend, Scott and I drove up to Eagle, Idaho to visit Austin and Shawnee and take up some furniture for their new apartment.
If the furniture looks like you have seen it before; well you have! It's from our house. We also took up Austin's washer and dryer and a chest of drawers along with some misc. stuff.
They live in a great community that is quiet and somewhat "Park Cityish" and the only noise in their neighborhood is the fact that they live next to the Post Office.
Her is a picture of their duplex as we were leaving. Nice place! 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, living room, kitchen and laundry and a GARAGE! It was a short but very enjoyable trip. Next time; golf will be the order of the day.

Placing rocks at Bear Lake

We ordered rocks so we could do some landscaping; and the guy dumped them right in the middle of our driveway!

Owen and Olivia (Irene's kids )had a little water fight while daddy and grandpa moved rocks.

It took ALL day, but we have the start of a wall and they also made stairs out of the rocks. They hardly made a dent in the huge rock pile though. This project just might take ALL summer long and then some.

Kraft Kamp at the Hive!

This week; I signed up Reagan and Hannah to three days of making crafts at the scrapbooking store I go to in Brigham City. They have had a blast making all the things so far. Here, they are making coasters to hold their drinks on. Corkboard had to be applied as well as they were laminated before they took them home.

Here; Donna (the owner of the shop) is helping them to decide what fabric they what for their flip-flops. The end decision was....every color that was available! That way their flip-flops match every outfit!

Taking it totally serious!

Two happy girls; and the end results on the flip flops. Besides the funky shoes, they have made a travel game folder, a recipe book with no-cook recipes in them as well as their coasters. We still have one more day of Kamp; so we can't wait to see what's next!

The workings of a yard and playground at Bear Lake

We have gone 3 years without much of a yard at our cabin. Only dirt. We weren't sure if we wanted to be mowing grass and watering everytime we were there. But we did know that we were getting tired of the kids having no where to play but in the DIRT! So we are trying to improve that situation. First up; are slides, next swingset and firepit. Even though it was really wet and muddy last weekend; we couldn't keep the kids from trying out the slides.

I think we have the beginning of a winner!

A run at Bear Lake

This past Saturday June 12, Bear Lake held a Marathon, a half marathon and 10 K walk.
Jolene and Erik decided to run the half marathon. (13 miles) Jolene had been training since January and when her partners backed out; Erik stepped up to the plate and ran it with Jolene so she wouldn't be alone. The rain held out long enough for the race.

Here they are with only 2 miles to go. We were waiting at the Pickleville playhouse to see them.

Turning into the city park where the finish line was. It looks like Erik would win it ahead of Jolene, but he did let her finish the line ahead of him. (what a great big brother)

A few sore knees later; but so glad that they had done it! We were all proud of them too.

One of the "perks" of being a grandma

One of the funnest things about being a grandma is getting invited to see the kids school programs. Here is James (Jennifer's son) graduating from pre-school at West Weber Elementary

So it is now on to Kindergarten next year! He is one excited boy!
Reagan (Jennifer's daughter) loved the first grade! A full day including lunch was way fun. She had a darling year end program all about "Under the Sea" and everyone went home with these cute t-shirts. So it's on to second grade and she is excited!
The craziest thing of all is that Jennifer's oldest and my oldest grandchild will go to Jr. High next year! Kenidee is so grown up all of a sudden; and it is so much fun to see her experience more"grown-up " things like Young Womens and going to the temple for baptisms for the dead.
Do you know how you know that you are getting old? Your kids start getting old! (That applies to grandchildren too.)

Hike to Ensign Peak with some Senate wives

Yesterday, during Intrum Day for the legislators, a few of us Senate wives decided to hike Ensign Peak, (which is located just above the capital) It had just stopped raining and was a muddy mess!

But after much slipping and sliding in the mudd we made it. What a fabulous view of the Salt Lake Valley. This was the same hike that Brigham Young took to lay out the city in 1847.
Salt Lake is below us. We have Georgia Knudsen, Anna Kaye Waddoups, Janis Christensen,Lane Hinkins, Merilee Stowell, and Me. Erin Maddson is taking this picture. We then met up with about 5 -6 more wives for lunch. All the pages (which are ladies that help out during the session) came too. Which made for about 25 of us for lunch at a little quaint cafe called "Em's". I'm just sooo glad that the weather held out for us.

A weekend for repairs!

After 3 years of having our "Maintance Free" cabin at Bear Lake; we noticed that our hardy board was chipping. It was supposed to have a 12 year not touch guarantee. We paid the extra money so that we would NOT have to repaint every 3-5 years! So we were given 5 gallons of primer and 5 gallons of stain. That was our warrantee after the first year. So we bought a power washer to remove the chipped stain. The picture shows that it stripped it almost all off. While we were waiting for it to completely dry, Scott tried to repair a broken window thanks to a crazy golfer hitting a range ball down the wrong way on the golf course. What was supposed to take about 1/2 hour, ended up taking 3 hours to repair. They had given us the wrong size window and Scott ended up breaking the new one also by trying to "shove" it in the opening. So time wasted and we have another broken window!

Matt and Irene came up to help us. Thank goodness that they did! Here they are applying the primer with the help of a lifter that we rented for the weekend. The sprayer that we had bought didn't work; so every coat of primer and stain had to be hand applied.

The stain needed probably 4 or 5 coats to make it as dark as the original color! We ended up only applying 3 coats before we ran out of time. We clocked 17 hours of use time on the lift.
While Matt and Irene were up on the wall, Grandpa and Owen went looking for golf balls. In just a short time they had collected over 35 balls! Thanks again Matt and Irene for taking your ENTIRE weekend to help us.! Next weekend....another 2 coats of stain will have to be applied! All to a wall that was supposed to be hands off!

New toys for a larger playroom

Having thirteen grandchildren; I was in desperate need of a larger "playroom". So I cleaned out an extra bedroom and bought some new toys. Cameron (Erik's boy) enjoys a new kitchen set.

Kate the doctor (also Erik's daughter) plays with the "new Dr. outfit." She looks just like what her mom Kelli looks like at her work.

Painting has begun!

Painting the back family room

Phase two in our remodel; paint the back family room. After what I went through with the kitchen; we decided to hire it done. Our painter we hired had someone come in for a day to plaster all the cracks.

Well the cracks proved to be a HUGE problem. We had rust and bubbling of the plasterboard. A one day job has turned into a 3 day and still counting just for the replastering and repairing!

And that is not even the painting part! Painting was to take at least 3 days. I'm alittle nervous as to what will happen when the painting starts. And now that the furniture is moved out of the room; I definately need a shampoo job!

Last Tuesday, April 13th Scott turned 60 years old! Boy was he depressed! But this past weekend all the kids came home and we went to Taggarts to celebrate.

Then on Sunday we all had dinner here. When we are all here; it makes for a very FULL room.

James had just gotten new glasses. I think that he looks so cute. He's not sure however; that he likes them yet.

Saturday was James' birthday. He turned 5 years old. This boy loves sports of all kinds and that's what he wanted for his birthday. A basketball from Mom and Dad.

A T-ball bat and mitt from Grandma and Grandpa Jenkins. He is on a team this spring and games start up soon.

James is a great boy and we love him very much and wish him a happy happy birthday.

Fun activities for Easter Sunday

Our Easter "helpers" this year were much taller than the kids. It took some "outside the box" thinking to retrieve our eggs.

Kenidee had to climb the swing set for an egg.

It's always fun to see the little ones when they see eggs to gather.

Checking all the eggs to see how much money was found. Griffin and Kenidee came out the winners with $9 each.

Disney On Ice was fabulous!

Last week, I took my grandkids to Disney On Ice. It was so good. This was Kaycee, Cameron,
Brianne, James and Owen's first time. To see the show in their eyes was precious. Cameron (Erik's and Kelli's son) asked " Why does Flounder (the fish) have legs?" Brianne (Jolene's daughter) was so worried about Tinker Bell's safety. Priceless! I can't wait til our other 4 small ones will be big enough to come.

Scott receives his Silver Beaver!

Friday night we went to Roy High School where Scott received his Silver Beaver Scouting Award. He was one of 59 recipients of this award in the Trapper Trails Council this year. The Silver Beaver Award is the highest service award that the scouting movement can bestow. Scott has been a registered scouter for more than 29 years! I was really glad that I could nominate him; being a silver beaver myself. ( One of the only times that I had something that Scott didn't)

Family Night at Thanksgiving Point

Our final "family night" activity for this session was Tuesday night at the dinosaur museum at Thanksgiving Point. This is one of our favorite activities. All the kids were "well" and able to come. Jennifer's family arrived first; so while we were waiting, I took their picture in front of the "Dino Easter Bunny".

The little girls loved the dino puzzle and finding all the right shapes.

A Chinese New Year...The year of the tiger

Saturday; Jolene's family and Scott and I; went to the University of Utah and experienced their free 3rd Saturday activities. This week it was all about the year of the tiger and the Chinese New Year. The kids went on a treasure hunt throughout the museum finding different animals that make up the Chinese New Year over previous years; (like rooster, snake, goat, dog etc.) All of these were in paintings or sculptures in the various rooms of the museum.
They also colored lanterns; and made hats. Here Jolene and Devin are making a hat for Addison.

There was live entertainment; like this dragon weaving thoughout the crowd as well as musicians and dancers (all Chinese of course)

It was a very fun activity that we had never experienced before. So just remember that on the 3rd Saturday of each month at the University of Utah Fine Arts building; there will be a different FREE activity going on. First come; first serve. (But they can handle LOTS of people)

More activities with the Senate

Last Thursday night all the Senators went to dinner together at an Italian restaurant in Salt Lake City called Buca Di Beppo. Look who I happen to run into!

Yesterday; Thursday; some of the legislative wives went to the Utah Food Bank and volunteered. We divided food items into smaller boxes to be shipped out to the various pick up spots throughout Utah.

Activities like these help us to become closer friends as well as doing good for the community.

Last week; Scott and I got to pose in the Utah "snowflakes". These are used to make commercials promoting Utah's greatest snow on earth. I have seen some of these commercials and they are hillarious! So the travel people came to the capitol and we got to be "snowflakes". (could be next year's Christmas card)

We all went to "family night"at the Aquarium last night. The kids had a great time looking at all the fish.

We are really pleased! Even the black appliances didn't seem to darken it up too bad. Everyone that sees it says that the kitchen just looks warmer now.

As you can see by the WHITE wall in the background; we haven't had time to get to the laundry room yet. I guess that will be next week's project (squeezed in between the Legislative session that starts Monday). I have to get it done; because I am still without a washer and dryer. My trip to Europe experience will come in handy; because we washed our clothes and underwear in the tub or bathroom sink while we were traveling. So that is a possible option for this next week.

Sunday Dinner

You have never experienced cooking a Sunday dinner until you have done it in a kitchen with NO appliances! Yesterday; we cooked dinner on a George Foreman grill, a toaster, and a microwave oven. Not too bad really. Turkey steaks, corn, pasta, and jello. I have been post-poned til Tuesday for the new flooring. But they are telling me that flooring and counter-top with new sink will go in this week! Painting all got done except in the laundry room. It will have to be painted with our new floor already in place. Oh well, that's what plastic and butcher paper is for I guess.

Final picture of a rock foyer. It has now been torn up and a new sub-floor put down.

After 33 years of a white counter top, red sink, white appliances and light flooring; we are updating to a wood floor, black appliances and a light brown solid surface counter-top. No more white walls. The plan is more of a mocha color with a red accent wall. Hopefully all will happen in the next couple of weeks.

Last Friday; December 11. 2009, Austin graduated from Weber State with a degree in Business Management. YEA!!!! We are so proud of him. Scott is elated; because he claims that he has now made his last college payment! So now it's cruise time for Scott and I. (However; Irene told us yesterday that she is seriously thinking of joining the college scene) Go Irene!

Kenidee; (Jennifer's daughter) is now 12 years old!. Time flies by sooo fast! It just seems like the other day she was running around here hating pink, dolls, and anything girly!
Now she is into jewelry, (even got her ears pierced) babysitting and giggles about boys.
She still likes to play her sports though; like basketball.
Here is a new watch we gave her for her birthday.

A new scrapbooking kit for all her pictures. Hopefully she will take after me and get her pictures organized and not take after her mother and just hardly ever take pictures let alone put them into books. This kit was really cool. It contained EVERYTHING to get one started into the hobby of scrapbooking. I found it at where else? Walmart!

A short visit to Jackson Hole

On October 25-27th, Scott had a Legislative conference on energy in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. So while he was in meetings ALL day long, the senate president's wife and I went to town. We were staying in Teton Village; so it was a little jont to drive into Jackson. Here is proof I was there. We had lunch one day in the Silver Dollar Bar and grill. I acccidently erased the picture of us by all the silver dollars embedded into the bar. But it was pretty cool. Weather was beautiful until Tuesday morning we woke up to snow! Winter is just around the corner I'm afraid.

Fixing leaking pipes in our home

When we did our first remodel in our house; Scott installed a new pipe that was flexible instead of the copper piping to fix our heat. This flexible stuff was the NEW was to go because it made plumbing easier. Well now over ten years later....that GREAT pipe is split and leaking all inside my walls and crawlspace.

We have had to cut holes in my walls; ripped up a stair to get to this faulty piping. (which is the orange ones.)

Mold was growing inside my walls on the sheetrock.

All the orange pipe had to be replaced with new black flexible hose.
Thanks to Tim and Devin, we got it fixed. So now that leads to painting, new flooring (which is the least) but does that mean another major remodel is in the works and this is only the beginning? Not sure I'm up to that emotionally!

Sorry; I don't know how to rotate my pictures on this blog.
We have had these two Aspen trees in our yard for 30 years.
In fact, when we landscaped our yard 4 years ago; the front yard
was designed around these two trees. Sadly this year they both
died from having a bore in them and had to be removed.
A neighbor called and offered to take them down; if he could have the wood.

So now our yard looks really bare (to us) with those trees gone.
We don't know what we will plant in their place. Can't do
another tree because of the roots still in the ground that
haven't rotted yet.

After a nice dinner Friday night at Senator Stowell's house in Parawan; we met up on top of Brian Head Peak for a traditional breakfast of Bacon, eggs and pancakes.

Kenidee was so good to play with the little kids this year. Here she is building a "castle" with Kaycee.

The boys spent the whole 2 days driving trucks.

This year the water is so high that you have to wade through mucky grass and knee deep water before you even get to the strip of sandbar we called "the beach". Thank goodness for the Rhino that can drive through water. It carried our shades and cooler from the cars.

Our time in Portland, Oregon

This Last Friday, we went to Portland for a conference that Scott needed to attend.
We took Jay and Barbara with us; and was SO grateful that they could come.

We happened upon an "Electric" car show. Pretty cool stuff for buzzing around town.

We drove up the Mt. Hood. They were grooming the slopes for the next days skiers. In fact they do more business in the summer months with skiing than they do in the winter.

The night lodge where it would be cool to spend a night.

We took a speed boat ride down the river to view all the ships that were loading and unloading on the Columbia river getting ready to head out to the ocean.
Notice all the grey clouds in every one of these pictures. We hardly ever saw blue skies.
Shorts and flip flops were the WRONG thing to bring on this trip!

Raspberry season is ON!

Griffin went to the doctor Monday to have his elbow checked. GOOD NEWS, no cast. Everything was healing great and he got his wrap taken off. So he now can look forward to swim lessons and finishing up baseball as well as reunions and just enjoying the summer.

Last week, Griffin (Jolene's son) fell off some playground equipment and hurt his elbow. The ex-rays couldn't tell if there was a fracture or just over-extended. So he is in a sling and has it wrapped til this next Monday when he goes back to the Doctor. A cast might be put on at that time. (We hope not!)

Reagan and Kenidee gave Griffin a get well present and cards. What thoughtful cousins. (Of course then they helped him eat the Starburst all gone.)

Addison is growing up soooo fast!

I went to Jolene's house a week ago; because she was experiencing stomach pain. After seeing 3 doctors over a 2 day period; they finally decided that she needed her appendix out. So after about 1 1/2 hours of lazer surgery, she got it taken care of. So I took her kids for a couple of days to give her a rest. She recovered so quickly that it was just amazing!

Addison loved the walker at my house. She had no trouble figuring out how every thing worked.

Addison is scooting all around on the floor. She has no trouble getting to any given point in a room. Full crawling is just a few days away I suspect. Then WALKING! Who do you think she looks like?

A fun day at the Ogden Cannery!

Scott and I decided that we needed to update our food storage.
So Jennifer got us an appointment for last Saturday for one hour at the dry pack cannery.
What a great time we had. Here Austin and Scott fill the cans, while Irene makes sure there is food to put in the cans.

After the cans were filled Jennifer made sure they were sealed and then I labeled each one.
Shawnee filled the boxes with 6 cans and labeled each box so we knew what was in there.

After we got over the "shock" of looking pretty geeky; we really did have a fun time. We filled enough boxes that each family got 8 boxes of dry food. Thanks to the missionaries that worked at the cannery. They were a great help and even made us laugh.

Hannah graduated from her pre-school yesterday May 29, 2009. There was a short ceremony in the teachers backyard.Her teacher gave all the kids a graduate autograph dog, these t-shirts and then a book with all their individual work sheets and pictures of field-trips they had done for the year.
Now on to Plain City Elementary this fall! I'm sure that she is ready. Her pre-school taught her alot.

California Trip May 2009

It is Christmas in May! Scott and I took all our children and 9 of our grandchildren to California this past week. Here we all are in Sea World.

The Zoo in San Diego was really fun. Perfect weather. And not hardly any crowds.
The animals were all very active!

Wednesday; we had breakfast with some of the characters! Brianne (Jolene's daughter who is 3 spent most of her time under her table because she was scared.) Tigger however; didn't scare her. Nor Austin and Scott either.

Irene and I waited in line for about 45 minutes to get a picture with Mickey.

Minnie was one of the many characters we had breakfast with. What a fun vacation!

Shawnee Graduates from Weber State

She was also honored as an outstanding student teacher for The Children's School

We are so proud of her. Shawnee is planning on teaching pre-school out of her home this fall. She already has about 12 students signed up.

Last night; Scott and I enjoyed an excellent viewing of Wicked.
There were lots of "celebreties" in the audience We sat right behind a lot of
Channel 4 people. Plus many political figures were there too.

This was probably the best Broadway play that I have ever attended. When I went to London a few years back, we saw Phantom, Les'Mes and Buddy Holly story.
But Wicked beats them all.

April Conference was great for sledding!

This past weekend; Jennifer's family went to Bear Lake to watch conference and have a little R&R. No snow on Friday night when we arrived; but when we woke up on Saturday; there was just enough snow to make for perfect sledding conditions. Notice that it was so warm that all coats came off.

Being a farmer is harder than it looks

Here is an update on the "farmers " in our family. Austin and Shawnee are sad to report that three of their turkeys had to be killed because they broke their legs sliding on the slick floor of the box they were in. The chickens however seem to be thriving. Austin says they are begining to "fly" around in their box and are getting bigger every day. Now it's on to buying a couple of cows to raise for meat. Good luck you guys.

An unusual "baby sitting request"

Austin and Shawnee are trying their hands at being farmers, or ranchers. They bought 5 turkeys and 8 chickens to raise this summer. They had them over to my house last Saturday evening and then they needed to leave to go to a birthday dinner and asked us if they could leave the chicks for a "little" while. We locked them up in Vader's "room". and you can see it drove him nuts!

He stood in front of his "room" listening to the cheeping for nearly 3 hours!

I'm sure glad that it is Austin's and Shawnee's responsibility to feed, raise, change litter paper, and LISTEN to them til it gets warm enough to put them outside!

A couple of weeks ago; we went as a family to Discovery Gateway in Salt Lake City. Irene already blogged some pictures of our night there; but here are some that she didn't get. My older grandchildren thought it was great fun to try their hand at the climbing wall. Here is Kenidee showing us her skills.

We did have one injury however. Kenidee tried to "jump" off the wall, and twisted her ankle. After limping around for awhile; she really was just fine.

A Great Find!

My scrapbooking buddy; Carolyn Hales and myself have found the perfect spot to do our scrapbooking on Thursdays. It is a store in Brigham City on Main Street called "Just Be Scrap'n. We go and spend the day, eat lunch and have a great time getting caught up on our scrapbook pages. The ladies there ( Donna and Leslie) are full of ideas to help you and all your supplies are there at your fingertips. (to purchase of course). It really is an enjoyable pasttime activity. I counted my scrapbooks the other day and I have 26 full ones and now working on my 2009 book.

Bridgette; this is for you. I did find out however that my answers have probably changed over the years. I probably wouldn't have answered some of these questions like this when we first got married.

1. Where did we meet? 1972 Young Adults (back then it was called M-men and Gleanors) I visited Scott's stake to see how an active program was working so I could bring it to my stake.

2. How long did we date before we got married? Our first date was on Sept. 17 and we were married on March 21 of 1973. So 6 months. My mom probably was freaking out.

3. How long have we been married? 36 years this March 21

4. My favorite feature about him? Now; is that he still has his hair

5. My favorite quality about him? His integrity. He's not afraid to stand up for what he believes

6. His nickname for me. Babe

7. His favorite color. I'm not sure he has one. He wears alot of browns

8. His favorite food: Anything that he concocks together. He loves to experiment in the kitchen with food.

9. His favorite sport: golf and hunting

10. Who said the L word first? I did; I wrote it on a Halloween card I gave him.

11. Where was our first kiss? on the lawn at Ben Lomond High School

12. Favorite couple thing to do? It used to be skiing; now it is going to Bear Lake for the weekend

13. How many kids do we have? 5; all of which are married now and we have 13 grandchildren.

16. Favorite Music; Scott doesn't listen to music very much. He is in his car ALOT, but always listens to KSL news or Doug Wright. Sundays he will put in a CD of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir.

A fun evening at Clark Planitarium

Kenidee is being a weather girl and showing us clear skies over Utah.
All the grandkids had a great time viewing the different stations at the Planitarium.
We received free popcorn and our 3-d glasses to view the BEST 3-d movie playing in all of Utah at this time. It is even tempting to try and "touch" all the fish and plants that seem to be so close to you.

An enjoyable dinner at Tepanyaki

Each year the President of the Senate hosts a dinner for all the Senators. It makes for a very nice evening to visit and get to know each other on more of a personal basis. This year we went to Tepanyaki at the Jordan Landing in West Jordan.

The food was sooo good. We had our choice of Salmon, Teriyaki Chicken, New York Steak and Shrimp.

This was our gift this year from Senate President Michael Waddoups and his wife Anna Kay.

During the 7 weeks Scott is in session; the spouses have activities about once a week. This year have been mostly luncheons with tours. One of our tours was to see the newly remodeled library at the University of Utah. It almost makes me wish I was a college student again to take advantage of all the new technology. After our tour, Suzan Young, who is the wife of the University's president had us come to her house on campus called the Rosenblatt House for a wonderful luncheon. This luncheon each year has become one of my favorites because Suzan always makes us a personal homemade gift. This year was these U of U scarves. Thanks Suzan for all the extras that you do for us!

On Friday December 26th, we went to Austin and Shawnee's house in Eden for a day of sledding. They have such a long driveway that we could just sled down it. Had to be careful not to go right into the highway below though. Even though it was COLD, we still had lot's of fun. Thanks you guys for all the hot chocolate!

We had a "Camo" Christmas for all the Grandkids. Kenidee and Kaden was too big to get the camo clothes, but they liked their new outfits as well.
Our Christmas this year was a trip to Disneyland for all of us! The kids got all the information they needed to plan our trip in the Spring. They each got a gift card to use for spending money at the park. We're hoping for an early May trip.

Kenidee's team plays championship game

Kenidee has been playing basketball on a recreation team this winter. They went the whole season without losing one game. Saturday, they played a Roy city team and won the championship. Way to go girls!
